Inclusive Employment Program

We run an Inclusive Employment Program, which offers short-term work placements for local residents who face barriers to employment. 

Why apply? 

As part of the program, you will:

  • Grow your social and professional connections and networks.

Eligibility 

To apply for these positions, you must: 

  • Be a City of Whittlesea community member 
  • Be facing or have faced barriers to employment 
  • Identify as one (or more) of the following:
    • Culturally and linguistically diverse
    • First Nations 
    • Living with a disability
    • Older.

Conditions

  • The position is available for six months only
  • Employment is conditional upon having the right to work in Australia. Evidence of valid working rights will be required 
  • Information obtained while undertaking the Inclusive Employment Program is deemed confidential and must not be divulged to any other party.

Work Ready Program for migrants and refugees

The Work Ready Program creates meaningful work experience placements to overcome the employment challenges and lack of Australian work experience faced by newly arrived immigrants and refugees living within the City of Whittlesea.

  • Gain experience and knowledge of the Australian workplace culture 
  • Gain local work experience to support you to gain future employment 
  • Build on your current skills and develop new skills 
  • Grow your social and professional connections and networks.

Eligibility

To apply for this program, you must: 

  • Be a resident of the City of Whittlesea municipality 
  • Be a new arrival in Australia 
  • Be fully qualified in your field 
  • Have a relevant working in Australia Visa or permit 
  • Be able to speak a moderate level of English.

Conditions

This is a 12-week placement (2 days per week, 6 hours per day) for a total of 144 hours.

Information obtained while undertaking the Inclusive Employment Program is deemed confidential and must not be divulged to any other party.

Work experience for Year 10 students 

Our work experience program offers a wide variety of opportunities to as many secondary students as possible. While we try to accommodate all requests, places are limited. 

Why apply?

As part of the program, you will: 

  • Experience the day to day lives of our employees 
  • Explore potential future career opportunities.

Eligibility

To apply for this program, you are: 

  • At least 15 years old and in Year 10 at the time the application is lodged.

Conditions

  • Placements are a maximum of 2 weeks 
  • Students will be reimbursed $10 per day 
  • Dress requirements during placements are safe, neat and tidy, and suitable for the particular work environment 
  • Information obtained while undertaking work experience is deemed confidential and must not be divulged to any other party 
  • Allow for at least 6 weeks' notice prior to the required dates.

Work experience for university and higher education students 

Work experience provides students with the opportunity to apply and enhance their knowledge and technical skills within a practical workplace setting. While we try to accommodate all requests, places are limited.

Why apply?

  • Exposure to a variety of tasks and projects relevant to your field or desired field of study
  • Receive insights into how business and industry operate and relate to other organisational functions
  • Placements are available in a variety of work areas at Council, giving you plenty of scope to apply yourself within a diverse organisation. 

Eligibility

  • You must be a student at an educational institution at the time the work experience application is lodged 
  • Placements are only available to students from approved educational institutions 
  • Personal injury insurance for the student must be covered by the relevant education institution or program.

Conditions

  • Students will be reimbursed $20 per day 
  • Dress requirements during placements are safe, neat and tidy, and suitable for the particular work environment 
  • Information obtained while undertaking work experience is deemed confidential and must not be divulged to any other party 
  • Allow for at least 6 weeks’ notice prior to the required dates.
