A new vision for popular park in Lalor
Published on 21 August 2024
A new plan for VR Michael Reserve in Lalor features more lighting, an upgraded carpark, a relocated toilet block, concrete paths and a new play space.
The master plan was endorsed at the Council Meeting on Tuesday 20 August, following extensive community consultation.
City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said community priorities had shaped the plan which will guide future development at the reserve.
"This plan will not only improve the functionality and accessibility of the reserve but also will help create a welcoming and enjoyable space for all," Lydia said.
“We are particularly excited about the recently upgraded car park, along with the proposed lighting, extension of the main car park and a proposed drop-off area adjacent to the Bocce Social Club, which will make parking safer and more convenient for visitors.”
The master plan also proposes upgrades to the entrances to ensure they are welcoming, with wayfinding signage, feature paving and landscaping, as well as recreational features that cater to different age groups, particularly young people. These include outdoor gathering spaces, fitness stations, multi-use ball court, table tennis tables, skate features and a bouldering wall.
Play experiences such as nature play, climbing and a playground will ensure the youngest visitors to the park have a place they can enjoy, while improved lighting, less dense vegetation and the activation of under-utilised spaces will improve visibility and safety for all.
The recommendations within the master plan are subject to future funding.
