The City of Whittlesea community is set to come together on Saturday 7 September at the Emergency Services Expo and 28th Annual Blessing of the Fleet.

The event will kick off at 10am with a heartfelt, multi-faith service that sends blessings and well wishes to our dedicated emergency service teams as they prepare for the upcoming fire season.

An Emergency Services Expo will follow the service, with a free sausage sizzle, coffee carts and kids’ entertainment, including face painting. Attendees will also have the opportunity to get up close to emergency services vehicles.

City of Whittlesea CEO Craig Lloyd invited the entire community to attend and be part of this meaningful event.

“The Blessing of the Fleet service is dedicated to the remarkable individuals and teams in our emergency services and marks the start of preparations for the upcoming fire season,” Craig said.

“It is an opportunity for us all to unite and express gratitude to emergency services personnel, both volunteers and career professionals, who work tirelessly, often at great personal risk, to safeguard our community.”

“We will also hear from leaders of our multi-faith congregations and pray for our emergency services crews and the vehicles and equipment that enable them to carry out their work, protecting and saving lives and property. This multi-faith blessing reflects a spirit of unity and appreciation for the emergency service personnel who serve our community.”

Emergency personnel from Country Fire Authority, Fire Rescue Victoria, Forest Fire Management Victoria, Victoria Police, State Emergency Services, Ambulance Victoria and Parks Victoria, as well as staff from City of Whittlesea, will be represented at the event together with religious leaders from the Bahá’í, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Islamic Dua communities.

The event will be held at the City of Whittlesea Civic Centre, 25 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang, from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday 7 September. The ceremony will be followed by a free sausage sizzle and kids’ activities.
