New walking and cycling paths are now open following the completion of the Quarry Hills Connecting Trails, providing residents and visitors the opportunity to experience nature and connect with the cultural significance of the parkland.

To mark the opening, Council is inviting the community to join the Discover the Connecting Trails – Guided Walks on Sunday 17 November from 10am. The walks will cover topics including birdlife, biodiversity, the benefits of nature and the park’s history.

Everyone is welcome to meet at Mortar Ridge in Mernda to start the day with free coffee, eucalyptus tea tastings and a parkland information session before setting off on one of the guided walks or explore the trails on your own.

Bookings are essential for the four guided walks however the trails, which range in length from 300 meters to 1.5 kilometers, are open for all to enjoy at their own pace.

City of Whittlesea CEO Craig Lloyd joined with Member for Mill Park the Hon Lily D’Ambrosio MP on Friday 8 November to inspect the completed trails.

The new trails help open up this incredible, green landscape for everyone in the community to enjoy.  With these new paths, visitors can connect with nature, celebrate the area’s cultural significance to the Wurundjeri Willum People and experience memorable views of the city and mountain ranges.

The Connecting Trails are part of Council’s broader long-term vision to improve Quarry Hills Parkland. Other major projects under construction include the Aboriginal Gathering Place and Granite Hills Major Community Park. Once complete, these will transform the parkland, supporting cultural connection and community engagement.

The Quarry Hills Connecting Trails is supported by the Victorian Government through the Suburban Parks Program and Growing Suburbs Fund.
