The City of Whittlesea is excited to announce the launch of its 2025 Positive Ageing Program to support residents aged 50 and over. The program is packed with fun, free or low-cost activities designed to keep older adults active, healthy, and connected with their community.

Whether you’re looking to stay active, meet new people, or try a new hobby, this program has something for everyone. From enjoyable exercise classes to fantastic social events, there’s bound to be a program that sparks your interest. The program focuses on inclusive ageing, meaning everyone, no matter your background, gender, or abilities, can get involved.

Joe, a local senior who recently joined the program, shared “I enjoy the exercises at the Seniors Exercise Park sessions because they improve my balance and reduce the risk of falls as I get older. I also get to meet new people in my community with similar interests.”

Some of the programs on offer include:

  • Lunch in a Bunch – A monthly lunch gathering at various restaurants, providing an opportunity for seniors to connect, socialise, and enjoy a shared meal
  • Know Your City Bus Tours – Guided tours helping residents over 50 explore local services, hidden gems, and community programs within the City of Whittlesea
  • Morning Melodies – A monthly music and entertainment program featuring live performances to foster social connections and enjoyment
  • Social Connections – A welcoming environment offering activities like music, craft, and gardening to support social engagement and community participation
  • Meals for Seniors Cooking – A hands-on cooking program guided by a dietitian, helping participants prepare healthy meals while learning new recipes and nutrition tips
  • Social 10-Pin Bowling – A fun and low-impact physical activity encouraging social interaction and friendly competition
  • Seniors Exercise Park – A specially designed outdoor space with fun, low-impact equipment to help improve strength, balance, and mobility
  • Social Golf - A golf program offering older adults a fun, community-oriented way to stay active, improve their golf skills, and socialise with others who share a love for the sport

Programs are part of the Let Everyone Actively Participate (LEAP) initiative, a City of Whittlesea program dedicated to enhancing the lives of residents aged 50 and older. Additionally, they form an integral component of the Social Connection and Centre Based Respite program for residents aged over 65 (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people) who qualify for services under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP).

LEAP membership is free, and members are eligible for a discounted membership to Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre (TRAC) and Mill Park Leisure.

To become a LEAP member and to access these programs contact the Ageing Well team at ageingwell@whittlesea.vic.gov.au or call 9217 2170 and select option 4.
