It all starts with kindergarten – applications now open
Published on 17 February 2025
Exciting news for families in the City of Whittlesea - applications are now open for the 3-year-old kindergarten program in 2026 and the 4-year-old program in 2027.
Families can access up to 15 hours of free kindergarten each week, and with more than 40 fantastic kindergartens to choose from, including two new kindergartens opening in 2026, it’s easy to find a local option.
Kindergarten plays a crucial role in shaping a child’s future by offering significant developmental benefits. It enhances children’s health and wellbeing, supports the development of strong social skills, and fosters a lifelong love of learning. Importantly, kindergarten helps children become more independent and confident, preparing them to transition smoothly into primary school, and setting them up for the future. It all starts with kindergarten.
Join our open days to meet the teachers and explore all that’s on offer at your local kindergarten. The open days will be held on Thursday 27 February from 5.30pm - 7.30pm and Saturday 1 March from 9.30am - 11.30am. All families are welcome to drop in during these times with no bookings required.
In addition to the kindergarten open events, the City of Whittlesea is offering free ‘help’ sessions from February onwards to assist families with completing kindergarten applications. Interpreter services will be available to support families from non-English speaking backgrounds.

My son loves hands-on activities like arts and crafts, songs, and storytime at kindergarten. Since starting, he’s become more social and better at expressing himself. It’s been amazing to see his confidence grow in such a safe, enriching environment.

Giving your child the best possible start in life is one of the most important decisions you can make. Enrolling your child in a kindergarten program helps build their social, emotional, and educational foundation, setting them up for success in primary school and beyond.
With so many kindergartens across the City of Whittlesea, families can easily find a centre close to home. This not only makes life more convenient for parents but also helps build local connections and a stronger sense of community within their neighbourhood.
