Projects to provide easy access to Regional Sports Precinct

The first sod has been turned on a series of projects designed to provide safe and convenient transport access to the future Regional Sports Precinct at Mernda.
City of Whittlesea CEO Craig Lloyd joined Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage MP to mark the milestone at a ceremony on Wednesday 4 September.
The future Regional Sports Precinct, to be located on Everton Drive, will help meet the growing demand across the region for quality court-based sporting facilities.
The precinct will feature an indoor stadium housing four multi-purpose sports courts, outdoor netball courts with lighting, changerooms, storage facilities and more.
In March, the Victorian Government committed $10 million in Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution funding to deliver critical Regional Sports Precinct-related transport infrastructure projects.
These include the design and construction of the Everton Drive-Plenty Road extension and intersection, a roundabout at the intersection of Everton Drive and Sissinghurst Parade, a new entrance into the precinct from Plenty Road and an internal access road.
Mr Lloyd said a project of the Regional Sports Precinct’s size and scale would not be possible without the support of the State Government.
“This sporting precinct will attract people from right across the City of Whittlesea so it is imperative these facilities are easily and safely accessible by car, bus, bike, and on foot.”
“Through careful planning, the rollout of these transport infrastructure works will also have the added benefit of reducing disruption to residents while the sporting precinct is built.”
Construction of the Everton Drive-Plenty Road extension and intersection commenced earlier in the year and is expected to be opened in mid-2025.
Planning is underway for the new roundabout, the entrance off Plenty Road and the internal access road.
