Taking action on trashy behaviour

Reporting dumped rubbish 1.JPG

Our dedicated Litter Enforcement Team investigates all illegally dumped rubbish. Community reports help our investigations, which often lead to fines.

Most people in our community do the right thing in disposing of waste, using many services to get rid of waste and recycling throughout the year. However, a small number of individuals and businesses choose to illegally dump rubbish on our roadsides, nature strips and parks.

Recently, a developer reported rubbish dumped from a large truck onto vacant land in Wollert, providing important details including the truck’s registration number, CCTV footage and information from others.

We investigated this evidence, tracking the truck back to a company that was hired to remove rubbish from a property locally and dispose of it properly. We compiled enough evidence to issue the maximum $10,000 fine.

Since June 2024, we’ve issued more than $85,000 in fines for illegally dumped rubbish.

To help us take action on illegal dumping, when reporting an issue, you can share identifying information such as a vehicle registration number.
