Memories unite our community

We have marked both celebrations and commemorations in the City of Whittlesea over recent months.

Our local businesses took centre stage at the recent City of Whittlesea Business Awards.

It was wonderful to see everyone among the glitz and glamour enjoying a night out to celebrate their hard work.

We were delighted to recognise the winners for demonstrating excellence in customer service, innovation, sustainability, community, diversity or as a home-based business.

You can read all about the winners on page 13.

We also enjoyed celebrating 100 years of the Spring Street Hall in Thomastown, which was originally known as the Thomastown Mechanics’ Institute Hall. This delightful historic building has served as a dance hall, movie theatre, schoolroom, library, concert hall, senior citizen club, local scout meeting place and a venue for numerous community groups and activities.

We enjoyed hearing stories of the memories of this important place.

On a more sombre note, Council marked National Sorry Day with an emotional ceremony remembering the Stolen Generations. Sorry Day is held each year on 26 May to commemorate the tabling of the Bringing them Home report in Federal Parliament in 1997.

A reminder that our Council Meetings are held monthly at the Civic Centre in South Morang on a Tuesday evening at 6pm. You can find out more on the Council meetings page.
