Plenty Road - Everton Drive intersection
We're extending Everton Drive to create a new intersection at Plenty Road. The intersection will help to ease congestion around Mernda and provide access to the future regional sports precinct.
Why we're building the intersection
The first stage of the regional sports precinct development involves the extension of Everton Drive about 100 metres east to connect to Plenty Road, creating a new intersection.
The intersection, to be controlled by traffic lights, will help to improve traffic flow around Mernda and provide access via Everton Drive to the future regional sports precinct.
The extension was identified in both the Mernda Strategy Plan (2004) and Everton Gardens Development Plan as necessary to manage traffic as Mernda grows.
Project timeline
The contract for construction of the intersection was awarded at the Council Meeting on 19 December 2023 and construction started in April 2024.
Construction was temporarily paused in September 2024 to enable some design issues to be sorted with the Department of Transport and Planning.
Construction resumed on mid-January 2025.
The first stage of works, on the western side of Plenty Road, is expected to be completed in early March 2025. The second stage, on the eastern side, will commence after the first stage is finished.
It is expected the intersection will be finished in mid-2025.

Frequently asked questions
How will the roadworks affect me?
The roadworks will affect a section of Plenty Road, in both directions, about 100 metres north of Bridge Inn Road through to Station Road.
Plenty Road will remain open for the duration of the works, however, motorists can expect changed traffic conditions, including a reduction in the speed limit, to keep workers and road users safe.
The works will generate noise and dust, with the contractor required to engage in mitigation measures, which will be detailed in its traffic management plan.
Residents in Everton Drive and surrounding streets will continue to have full access to their properties for the duration of the works, as will property owners in Station Road.
More information will be communicated to residents once the contractor completes a traffic management plan.
What other roadworks are planned in the area?
After the Plenty Road-Everton Drive intersection is complete, a roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Everton Drive and Sissinghurst Parade.
The roundabout, which will be the subject of a separate tender process, will provide vehicles with access to the regional sports precinct.
