Recycling facilities

Benefits of recycling

Before you put household or commercial waste in your rubbish bins, it’s worth considering whether certain items or materials can be recycled.

While some items should not go in your everyday bins, there are local recycling facilities that can take the item and recycle it. There are also Council recycling stations where you can recycle items like light globes, medication blister packs and some e-waste items.

There are many good reasons why you should take items that can be recycled to a recycling facility.

  • Recycling will save you money and taking your waste to landfill can be costly.
  • The material will be processed and made into usable mulch, or compost, so that the carbon content is returned to the soil. This results in fewer carbon emissions.
  • You can take your garden and timber waste to certain recycling facilities for free if you use your City of Whittlesea green and timber waste and recycling disposal vouchers.

For many residents, the recycling facilities on these pages may be closer to travel to than the landfill.

Council recycling stations

We’ve installed recycling stations throughout the City of Whittlesea to help you get rid of items that don’t belong in your bin in an environmentally friendly way.

It’s free to drop off certain items, including light globes, mobile phones and DVDs, in household amounts at our recycling stations. The service is not for commercial waste.

Privately owned recycling facilities

The following privately-owned local facilities recycle paper and cardboard, green waste, bricks, timber waste and PVC pipes.

These facilities are only licensed to accept certain items, and do not accept mixed loads. Charges may apply.

With some of the facilities, you may be able to use your City of Whittlesea green and timber waste and recycling disposal vouchers.
