Pay your rates

We collect rates from property owners in the City of Whittlesea to fund local services. These include children's services, waste collection, library services, recreation and leisure facilities, road and footpath maintenance, and much more.

Paying your rates

You have two options in paying your rates and charges for the 2024-25 financial year:

Quarterly instalments

Instalment 1: 30 September 2024

Instalment 2: 30 November 2024

Instalment 3: 28 February 2025

Instalment 4: 31 May 2025

If the due date falls on a public holiday or weekend, the instalment can be paid the next working day.

Lump sum

Payable by 15 February 2025

Any payment that is not received by the statutory due date may be charged interest. For further information on this, visit Payment plans and financial hardship.

Can I apply to get my rates notices via email?

You can choose to have your rates notices emailed to you.

You need to register with us. Once registered, you will be able to log into your account 24/7 to view and download your rates notices.

Note: once you've registered for eNotices, you'll no longer receive a copy of your rates notice by post.

How do I sign up?

  • Visit Whittlesea enotices
  • Enter the eNotices reference number (located on the top-right corner of your most recent rates notice).
  • Here's an example:

Payment options available

We offer many ways for you to pay your rates.

Pay online

Step 1.Prepare your documents

You will need the following information to make a payment: 

  • your rates assessment number (can be found on your rates notice)  
  • your Visa or Mastercard details.

Step 2.Make your payment

Make sure the form shows 'Rates payment' as the payment type.

Enter your rates assessment number.

Step 3.What happens then? 

Once we receive your payment, it will be applied to your next rates notice.

Pay by phone

Step 1.Gather your documents

You'll need:

  • Your assessment number (located on your rates notice).
  • Your Mastercard or Visa.

Step 2.Make your call

Call our 24-hour phone hotline on 1300 301 185.

Step 3.What happens then? 

Once we receive your payment, it will be applied to your next rates notice. 

Pay by BPay

Step 1.Prepare your documents

You will need the following information to make a payment: 

  • your rates assessment number (can be found on your rates notice)  
  • your BPAY reference number (found next to the BPAY logo on your rates notice)

Step 2.Make your payment

You can use BPAY by:
  • logging onto your online banking site
  • entering biller code 5157 and your BPAY reference number

Step 3.What happens then? 

Once we receive your payment, it will be applied to your next rates notice.

Pay by FlexiPay (Direct Debit)

FlexiPay is our direct debit payment platform. You can pay your rates in smaller amounts to suit your budget (weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly or lump sum) throughout the financial year. FlexiPay is completely self-serve and easy to set up online.

Note: If you do not have email, please contact Council on 03 9217 2170 to request an application form to be posted to you. 

Step 1.Gather your information

You will need:

  • a valid email address
  • a contact number.
  • Your eNotices reference number (located on the top right-hand corner of your most recent rates notice)

Submit your request for FlexiPay direct debit

Go to our our FlexiPay request page. 

Enter your eNotices reference number from your rates notice to bring up your details and set up your payment schedule.

Step 2.What happens then?

The correct amount to pay will be calculated for you, ensuring balances are paid before the end of the financial year.

If your account goes into arrears, or you're having trouble paying, you may need to apply for a payment arrangement.

Pay at Australia Post

Step 1.Prepare your documents

You will need the following information to make a payment: 

  • a copy of your rates notice
  • your chosen payment method.

Step 2. Make your payment

  • Bring your rates notice to any Australia Post office and pay over the counter by cash, EFTPOS, cheque, Mastercard or Visa credit card, OR
  • Phone 13 18 16 and pay by Mastercard or Visa, OR
  • Visit the Australia Post website and pay by Mastercard or Visa

Step 3.What happens next?

If you pay in person, you'll get a receipt.

Once we receive your payment, it will be applied to your next rates notice.

Pay by mail

Step 1.Prepare your payment

Attach the payment slip of your rates notice to your cheque (crossed 'not-negotiable') or money order.

Put them in a stamped envelope addressed to us and with your return address details.

Step 2.Mail it to us

Pay in person at our offices

a copy of your rates notice

your chosen payment method (cash, or debit or credit card)
