Children's school crossings
Our city has 160 children’s school crossings. Most are supervised by School Crossing Supervisors, or ‘lollipop people’, who help young children cross the road safely on their way to and from school.
Some of these crossings also feature pedestrian-operated signals where required.

Remember the rules at school crossings
Drivers are responsible for driving and parking safely at all times, especially around school crossings.
When driving near school crossings remember the following.
- Always keep the children’s crossing clear.
- Parking is not allowed within 20 m before a school crossing or 10 m after the crossing (unless otherwise signposted). Parking within this area makes it difficult for children and the crossing supervisor to get a clear view of the road.
- It is illegal to double park your car (i.e. you are not allowed to stop next to a parked car).
