Landfill

Try to reuse, repair, recycle

We encourage everyone to care for our environment by limiting what goes to landfill. After checking if you can reuse, repair or recycle an item, the landfill is a final disposal option.

Before heading to the landfill, check if your items can be fixed or used by someone else. Depending on the item, you can sell or donate it, or take it to a community recycling facility.

E-waste

Unwanted electrical and battery-operated items cannot go into landfill.

Green waste

Green waste and timber offcuts can be recycled at our community recycling facilities.

You can also arrange a free kerbside bundled branches collection.

Needle and syringe disposal

Residents who use needles and syringes for medical purposes can collect free sharps disposal containers.

For a list of ways to dispose of unwanted items see our A-Z guide to waste and recycling.

Save yourself a trip to the landfill

Cover your load

For the safety of other road users and to prevent littering, all trailer and vehicle loads must be covered with a properly secured tarpaulin.

If material falls from your vehicle or trailer, you may receive a Council fine. If littering happens when your load is uncovered or unsecured you may face a much larger court-imposed fine.

This includes loads containing loose household garbage, hard and green waste, building materials, mulch, sand and soil.

Tie your tarp securely with rope and make sure items can’t blow or bounce out if you hit a bump or brake suddenly.

Text reads: remember to cover your load. Penalties apply for uncovered loads. Image shows a red cross above an uncovered trailer and a green tick above a covered trailer.
