Aboriginal employment pathways

Our Aboriginal Employment Pathways Strategy and Action Plan provides a road map to foster a culturally appropriate and inclusive workplace in the City of Whittlesea for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Employment is critical to reducing the social, economic and health gaps experienced by Aboriginal peoples.

The strategy aims to build a workplace where Aboriginal peoples are valued and respected. It will create opportunities for skill and career development in a supportive environment.

The strategy also aims to make the City of Whittlesea an employer of choice for First Nations people.

The action plan set a target to increase the proportion of Aboriginal peoples employed at Council. We have worked to achieve this by focusing on four key areas.

  1. Workforce environment and cultural competency.
  2. Attraction, recruitment and selection.
  3. Retention and career development.
  4. Resources, governance and reporting.
