Whittlesea Reconciliation Group

Whittlesea Reconciliation Group (WRG) is a community-based committee. It meets regularly to discuss issues, opportunities, initiatives and programs that impact Aboriginal peoples living in the City of Whittlesea.

The WRG is guided by its vision and purpose.

Vision

A connected community respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia, their history and culture through actions supporting reconciliation.

Purpose

The purpose of the WRG is to provide advice to Council and assist Council to increase understanding of Aboriginal Peoples and Aboriginal culture, as well as bring all people together to support reconciliation. The WRG embeds a genuine partnership approach with the Aboriginal community in the development of Council's strategies and plans.

Membership

The WRG is comprised of:

  • Eight First Peoples (voting)
  • Eight non-Aboriginal members (voting)
  • One Councillor (voting)
  • Council Officers (supporting non-voting ex-officio members)
