Find a Justice of the Peace
You can get documents such as statutory declarations and affidavits witnessed and certified by a Justice of the Peace (JP).
Other authorised witnesses, such as police, can also witness documents.

Some JPs work from document signing stations in the community; others work privately.
To locate JPs in your area, search on the Department of Justice and Community Safety website, or phone 1300 365 567.
Visit a local police station
Police officers at local police stations are authorised to witness affidavits and statutory declarations.
Please note: this service is only available on certain days at set times.
Epping Police Station
You can get documents witnessed at the Epping Police Station for free during the following times:
- Tuesdays: 10 am to 2 pm
- Wednesdays: 6 pm to 8 pm
- Thursdays: 6 pm to 8 pm.
The service does not operate on public holidays.
If you need a large number of documents witnessed and certified, try to avoid visiting during busy periods or just before closing times. Otherwise, plan to make several visits.

Mernda Police Station
You can get documents witnessed at the Mernda Police Station during the following times:
- Mondays: 10 am to 2 pm (except the fifth Monday in a month)
- Tuesdays: 6 pm to 8 pm.
