Professor Farrell will discuss the major trends and opportunities that will provide jobs and growth opportunities over the coming decades. He will explore how sectors such as health and biotechnology, care economy, and food and agriculture intersect with developments in digital technology, such as AI, to present great opportunities for Melbourne’s north.

Professor Theo Farrell, Vice-Chancellor and President at La Trobe University

Professor Theo Farrell commenced as Vice-Chancellor and President of La Trobe University in February 2024. He previously held leadership roles at the University of Wollongong, City University of London, and King’s College London.

Professor Farrell is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK) and past President of the British International Studies Association. He passionately believes that universities have a mission to build a better world through research, education, industry partnerships, and civic engagement.

Professor Farrell’s research focuses on defence innovation and contemporary armed conflict. He has acted as a strategic advisor to the UK government and US-led command in Afghanistan.
