The Whittlesea Fire Brigade is a team of dedicated community-based volunteers that have been serving our community for over 98 years. The brigade plays a vital role in keeping our community safe and responding to a wide range of emergencies. These include fire and medical emergencies, rescue operations, hazardous materials incidents, and natural disasters. The Brigade's versatility and preparedness ensure it can respond to any situation. It also provides public assistance,
community support, and fire prevention education to ensure the well-being of our community.
The brigade is 100% volunteers that are made up of community members from the Whittlesea, Eden Park and Humevale areas. They respond 24/7, 365 days of the year whenever their assistance is needed for fires, flood, car accidents and emergency medical responses such as cardiac arrests, among many other emergencies. The brigade also actively participates in community events and programs such as kindergarten and school education programs, fire prevention and preparation education programs, Santa runs, Whittlesea Show displays and community roadside meetings.
The brigade’s annual fundraiser ‘Great Bowls of Fire’ will be held at the Whittlesea Bowling Club on Friday the 6th of December between 8.30am – 4.00pm. The Social Bowls Day promises to be a fun-filled event that will unite our community while raising funds for the future development of the fire brigade, ensuring that they have the right equipment, facilities, and training to best serve the community. Teams of four will be playing bowls on the green for fun, as well as to have a bit of healthy competition, to claim the title of winners of the ‘Great Bowls of Fire’ competition and take out the prize valued at $500.
This is a fun for all event, with no experience or equipment needed, with the Whittlesea Bowling Club on hand to loan out equipment and show people the ropes.
As part of your silver team ticket, thanks to the amazing team at Whittlesea Bowling Club and 101 Church you will also be provided egg & bacon breakfast, morning tea, a two-course lunch, afternoon tea, soft drinks and water. Gold team tickets are also available, which include beer, wine and spirits.
The day doesn’t end there though, thanks to sponsors such as LMF Global Logistics Solutions, Streamline Swim School in Eltham and Ferguson Plarre’s Bakehouse Whittlesea assisting us with prizes, we will also be running silent auctions and raffles to be run during the day as well.
All funds raised from the event are crucial in supporting the future development and enhancement of Whittlesea Fire Brigade. Some of the key ways these funds will be utilised to benefit the brigade include:
- Community outreach and education, delivering robust fire prevision and safety education programs for the community to raise awareness and engagement,
- Volunteer recruitment and retention programs,
- Equipment upgrades and replacements, investing in advanced firefighting and emergency response tools and technology,
- Training and professional development for our volunteers,
- Facility improvements, by upgrading or expanding the fire station to accommodate the brigades growing need.
