Fire prevention inspection program

Fire prevention inspection program

Monday, January 1, 0001

Our fire hazard inspection program helps keep our city safe from grass fires which is a risk in much of the City of Whittlesea.

We have a responsibility under the various fire acts to ensure the community's fire risk is reduced.

One of the things we do to prepare for the fire season is to inspect properties to ensure there are no fire hazards such as:

  • dead or long dry grass
  • fuel such as dead branches, piles of cuttings etc
  • wood piles placed too close to houses or fence lines
  • other combustible material

We issue notices to remind residents of their obligation to remove hazards. You can read more about fire prevention notices on our fire ready page.

We're also working to remove hazards from council land, including our roadside slashing program which kicked off this month. Neighbouring councils and other agencies such as VicRoads are also responsible for slashing and mowing beside the roads they manage. You can view our Roadside Slashing map and see when your area is scheduled.

You can contact us via email or phone on 9217 2170 (during business hours) if you are concerned about a property near you.
