Walking Football teams from the City of Whittlesea competed in the Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast in November, supported by the City of Whittlesea and Football Victoria.

Walking Football is a low-impact, modified version of indoor soccer, suitable for all levels of ability and fitness.

Whittlesea’s competitors at the Pan Pacific Masters Games included those from the Social Exercise and Walking Football program held on Mondays, coordinated by the City of Whittlesea, and the Walking Football program held on Thursdays by Whittlesea U3A.

Both programs are held at The Y Leisure City in Epping.

“The teams put in incredible performances, holding their own against quality opponents. It was an amazing experience for everyone to play in the inaugural Walking Football tournament of the Pan Pacific Masters Games,” said Con Constantinou, City of Whittlesea Positive Ageing Officer.

Prior to the walking football programs being introduced as part of Council’s Let Everyone Actively Participate (LEAP) program, many participants had never been involved in regular exercise.

City of Whittlesea provides a range of social and health-based programs for residents aged 55 and above.
