Day trips and outings with the LEAP program. Due to COVID restrictions we are currently not providing these trips.
Uplift and Connect Whittlesea Seniors social and friendship program - The Uplift and Connect program runs Wednesday afternoon during the year at alternate locations - Barry Road Community Activity Centre, Thomastown and Mernda Villages Community Activity Centre, Mernda. This program includes light refreshments and themed entertainment each week. We encourage participants/volunteers to get involved with designing and setting up the program.
Multicultural Cinema sessions are open to you and your families to enjoy a night of entertainment which is focused on a local cultural group. This includes culturally specific refreshments and pre movie entertainment. The movies are screened in a community language with English subtitles.
Healthier You Seminars / Information Expos – From time-to-time Council’s Positive Ageing Team will invite residents to seminars and expeditions on topics you may find useful. For example: Advanced Care Planning, Health – Dementia explained, Ageing Well Expo, healthy mind/healthy body, understanding Elder Abuse.
Exercise Classes and other health programs – Improve you strength and mobility by attending the exercise classes, seniors golf and other activities located at different venues around our municipality. Please see further details on the Staying Active – exercise and health programs for people 50+
Unfortunately, we do not provide transport, but there are a number of community organisations who provide transport services to and from our events.
"Let's Talk about Ageing" Older People's Art Exhibition - creative conversations to end ageism
If you're aged 50 and older you can submit artwork to our exhibition which will run during June 2021 in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. You can submit painting/drawing, poetry or short prose, photography, craft/needlework. Contact 9407 5913 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
