Staying Active- exercise and health program for people 50+

Find out about the many local, low-cost exercise options for older adults within the City of Whittlesea.

Regular physical activity helps:

  • keep your weight in a healthy range
  • decrease your risk of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and some cancers
  • reduce the rate of bone loss, delaying the onset of osteoporosis
  • improve your balance, strength, coordination and decrease your risk of falling
  • meet new people and keep you connected to your local community

You should speak to your doctor before starting any new exercise, or if it has been a long time since you have exercised regularly.

Exercise classes and other options

You can participate in a range of exercise classes throughout the municipality, led by qualified instructors who understand the needs of older adults.

Exercise classes can help you keep physically and mentally alert, and continue to be active after occupational therapy or physiotherapy due to an accident or illness.
