About the project

The City of Whittlesea is upgrading the off-leash dog park at the Whittlesea Public Gardens in Lalor to ensure it meets the needs of local dog owners and their pets.

The upgraded park will feature a new quiet dog zone, double gate entry, bench seating, drinking fountains, new fencing and improved landscaping.

Community consultation

Council held a month-long community consultation process from 15 July to 12 August 2024 to gather feedback on the upgrade’s draft concept plan.

A total of 154 people participated in the consultation by completing a survey on the Engage Whittlesea platform or visiting the on-site community-based pop-up.

84 percent of respondents expressed their satisfaction with the concept plan, while almost 90 per cent indicated the upgrade would encourage them to use the off-leash area.

Feedback gathered through the community consultation period was used to inform adjustments to the concept plan.

The main change, after listening to residents’ suggestions, was to reduce the size of the quiet dog zone in order to increase the size of the main dog park.

Timeline

Council expects to start upgrading the park on 9 December 2024. It is expected the works will continue until April 2025.

Park closure

For the safety of dog owners and their pets, the existing dog park will be closed for the duration of the redevelopment.
