Norris Bank Reserve Master Plan

In October 2017, we adopted a master plan for Norris Bank Reserve in Bundoora to guide upgrades and improvements going into the future.

About the master plan

Norris Bank Reserve is a 10.3 hectare open space in Bundoora. It's located on the north bank of Darebin Creek, approximately 500m West of Plenty Road, and within walking distance of the Bundoora Shops.

Norris Bank a busy local recreation area. We developed a master plan to guide upgrades and improvements for the reserve so it meet the needs of the local community.

What the plan includes

The master plan outlines some key objectives for the reserve, and defines projects to meet those objectives.

Key objectives include:

  • creating a regional open space for all ages and abilities
  • promoting and facilitating social community use and events
  • encouraging and supporting informal active recreation
  • protecting and enhancing the ecological and cultural landscape
  • establishing a safe and well-maintained reserve.

Stage 1 - complete

We established a dedicated dog off-leash area in 2018. This incorporated a drink fountain with integrated dog bowls, litter bins, bench seat and new fencing.

Stage 2 - complete

Stage 2, which involved the construction of a major community play space, is complete.

The play space includes the following:

  • a six metre high play tower with slides, monkey bars, rope play and interactive elements
  • upgraded picnic facilities
  • water play
  • a beginner’s skate/ scooter loop
  • an Accessible Changing Places facility.

Stage 3 - complete

We upgraded the bocce courts at Norris Bank Reserve in late 2020.

Stage 4 - completed, Nov 2023

We redeveloped the western precinct at Norris Bank Reserve into a multi-use youth space. The redevelopment project included:

  • an upgraded multi-use basketball court
  • a performance space, with Bluetooth speakers for small scale, impromptu performances
  • a shelter and social gathering space with WiFi access
  • grass embankment
  • feature LED lighting
  • upgraded path network to improve access to the broader reserve and public transport.

Construction started in April 2023 and the youth space opened officially in November 2023.
