About the plan

We're excited to share that the City of Whittlesea has adopted a new master plan to enhance Whittlesea Park over the next decade.

This comprehensive plan was developed in collaboration with the Whittlesea Showgrounds and Recreation Reserves Committee of Management.

The master plan includes 13 key recommendations aimed at making the park more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

What's new?

The approved master plan includes a variety of upgrades to improve and expand the park's facilities.

  • Installation of a three-meter-wide circuit path complete with pedestrian bridges crossing over Scrubby Creek, Plenty River and Bruce Creek.
  • Improved entryways to the Whittlesea Showgrounds.
  • New picnic spots equipped with barbecue setups for community use.
  • Revamped play areas designed to entertain children of all ages.
  • A comprehensive tree audit and strategy will be implemented to better manage and increase greenery.
  • Formalised parking areas along Laurel, Forest, Walnut, and Beech streets to ease access.
  • Updates to the off-leash dog park, including planting new trees and creating a quiet zone for dogs.
  • Plans to construct new public toilets near the Walnut Street entrance.
  • New facilities for physical activities, including exercise tracks, netball courts and areas designed for learning to ride bikes.

Future plans

The Council, together with the Committee of Management, will work alongside state government partners to enhance the vegetation along the waterways.

We're also developing an interpretative signage plan to promote the cultural history of the area.

To put these plans into action, the Council will manage the land west of Bruces Creek-Plenty River, where we’ll be building most of the new facilities.

We’ve also successfully received $500,000 from the State Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund to build a new bridge over the Plenty River at the end of Laurel Street.

This bridge will make it easier and safer for residents of Eastern Hill to get to schools, shops and community centres in Whittlesea.
